Answer to Question 21.

9. How much ventilation is required around a typical charging system?

We recommend leaving 100mm around the sides and front of our enclosed charging systems.

Battery rooms need plenty of ventilation in order to make sure the concentration of hydrogen gas (produced by lead-acid batteries) is kept well below danger levels. The battery manufacturers should be able to quantify how much gas their batteries produce during a typical recharge cycle and the ventilation requirements can be calculated from this.

Common sense prevails here. If you can smell gas in a battery room, the ventilation most certainly needs to be increased. More is preferable to too little.
