Until recently, CBC Design used RBS Worldpay to process on-line credit card payments for goods purchased from our website.
We chose Worldpay because they were well known to internet shoppers, provided a free shopping cart and had good fraud prevention solutions making shopping safe and secure.
Visa and Mastercard have recently introduced mandatory standards called PCI DSS to which all merchants must comply. Worldpay sent an email to CBC Design informing us about the new standards and directing us to a so called partner who would, for a fee, guide us through the compliance process. There was a free option available accompanied by various warning regarding the potential pitfalls of following this "fee free" route to compliance.
Since CBC Design paid RBS Worldpay hundreds of pounds a year in renewal fees and fraud prevention guarantees on top of the transaction fees we pay every time a customer orders from our website, we were rather surprised by the content of the email we received and the lack of help RBS Worldpay seemed to be willing to provide to help us through the compliance process. Indeed when speaking to their customer services department expressing our fears and concerns regarding the application process, they informed us that they were receiving many calls from other customers expressing similar fears.
Dissatisfied with RBS Worldpay's support in this matter we decided to cease using RBS Worldpay to process on-line transactions and are currently unable to process credit card transactions from our website.
WHERE WE GO FROM HERE
We are in the process of setting up a new payment gateway. In the meantime you can order on-line and pay by cheque by sending it to us by post. The goods will be despatched when your cheque clears the banking system. We hope to have credit/debit card facilities in place by 20th of November 2010.
We apologies for any inconvenience and hope you understand the reasoning behind our recent decision.
